Languedoc-Roussillon: a family story

Much more than a sunny holiday spot, Languedoc-Roussillon is above all a story of passion and feeling. Originally from Pouzols in Minervois, the Calvet family owned a wine estate there in the 1700s. A passion for vines was passed down from generation to generation, in order to produce quality wines with the greatest respect for the environment.

Considered the largest wine region in France, Languedoc-Roussillon boasts more than 240,000 hectares of vines that stretch from Provence to the Pyrenees and the Spanish border. The viticultural history of this magnificent region dates back to the 5th century BCE, but it was not until the 80s that its wines were finally recognised for their opulence and richness.

The wonderful wealth of southern wines

Thanks to its mosaic of terroirs, Languedoc-Roussillon offers exceptional viticultural variety, with characterful grape varieties that make for powerful and concentrated red wines. They range from spicier and fleshy wines such as Syrah and Minervois, to livelier wines like Picpoul with its aromas of acacia and hawthorn blossom. You will also enjoy Cahors, a well-structured red wine with enveloping tannins, or Malbec, which is very common in Languedoc-Roussillon.

One of the best-known appellations among southern wines is Fitou. It is a unique wine with concentrated aromas and a lovely freshness.

The wines of Provence: a fresh, delicate and modern aromatic signature

Provence is one of the ultimate tourist destinations, with its seaside resorts and lavender fields, but it is also a wine region with a particularly diverse landscape that spans over almost 200 km. This exceptional terroir enjoys 2,800 hours of sunshine a year, and its first vineyards were planted by the Romans in the second century BCE.

Since 2007, the Helfrich family has continued the tradition of Maison Calvet by selecting Provençal wines that perfectly combine the delicacy and sensuality of the Mediterranean.
